Speaker:

Hi, I'm Katie Lyons, and I'm a talent booker for podcasts

2

:

and television and today I'm going

to give you a tip about how to get

3

:

the best talent on your podcast

4

:

So, I am a talent booker for podcasts and

television, and I work with all different

5

:

genres types of podcasts, including Plot

Twist podcast for Sky, which is booking

6

:

lots of Hollywood stars, Jack Whitehall's

podcast, the comedian, and John Bishop's

7

:

podcast, Joe Marla, the rugby player's

podcast, and, um, Trini Woodall's podcast.

8

:

Also, I've just taken on a really big

podcast and the Shxts'n'Gig s podcast,

9

:

Saving Grace podcast, and many, many more.

10

:

It's great to work in all different

genres and keep on top of my game.

11

:

I got into podcasting,

it was during COVID.

12

:

My background's in television and I

worked at the BBC, for around 15 years.

13

:

And then in COVID, obviously everything

started drying up and I was listening

14

:

to a few podcasts and at that time they

were just getting more and more popular.

15

:

So I thought, oh, there's a niche

here, booking talent for podcasts.

16

:

So I started hammering LinkedIn,

just adding anyone and everyone

17

:

who had a podcast in their job

title and emailing to see if they

18

:

needed help with guest booking.

19

:

And slowly, but surely, I built

up a client base just through that.

20

:

So yeah, has been an absolute.

21

:

amazing saviour for me.

22

:

One thing I love about podcasts, compared

to television production, I love how

23

:

much simpler all the setup is than TV.

24

:

When you're recording a podcast, you've

only got really two options for location.

25

:

You've either got a studio,

or a remote recording.

26

:

So you can be in your kitchen.

27

:

So I would say that's a lot

easier for me and the producers.

28

:

Um, also with regards to

booking, it's a lot easier to get

29

:

those guests who are far away.

30

:

For example, the guests who are

in the USA or in Australia because

31

:

now you can speak to them remotely

and still get a great podcast.

32

:

My big tip for talent booking...

33

:

well, I don't want to give away

all my secrets, but my big tip

34

:

would be you need a talent booker.

35

:

No, I'm only joking.

36

:

If you're booking the guest yourself,

I'd go and have a search on Google,

37

:

see who's got a new book coming out,

who's got a new show coming out, who

38

:

might have a new song coming out.

39

:

And if you allow your talent to

talk a little about what they're

40

:

promoting, it may be an easier sell

to get that guest that you want.

41

:

This is also a good way to save money.

42

:

As they'll come on the podcast for free,

43

:

you can find me on LinkedIn, just

type in Katie Lyons, talent booker.

44

:

And you can see some links to

some of the great podcasts that

45

:

I'm working on at the moment.

46

:

Thanks for listening to Podcasting People.
